Golf Swing Fundamentals To Apply To Your Next Game

There are basically six golf swing fundamentals that you need to learn and maintain whether you are a novice or veteran player.  Do you know that you can lower your score by more than five strokes instantly by following a few simple rules?  These essential golf swing fundamentals that you must abide by are grip, posture, pivot, hand and arm relationship, alignment and the mental aspect.

Grip

Grip refers to the way that you hold your club.  It is important that your hands are fixed in such a way that they don’t move.  They have one sole job and that is to act like an attachment from your arms to the club and that is it.  There are three grips:

  • Overlap – The index finger on your left hand is overlapped by your right hand’s pinkie.
  • Interlock – Your left hand’s index finger and your right hand’s pinkie wrap around each other.
  • Ten Finger – All ten fingers grip the club without overlapping.

Any of these grips are fine as long as your palms face each other and the grip is neutral.  If your hands turn to the right, the grip is too strong and if they turn to the left then your grip is too weak.  If you happen to get blisters, your grip is the problem.  You should evaluate your grip before every swing.

Posture

Next on the list of golf swing fundamentals is your posture and this is not negotiable.  Proper posture is required for a good swing.  Your feet need to be shoulder width apart, with your toes pointing about five degrees outward.  Flex your knees just enough so they aren’t locked and bend from your hips, not your shoulders.  Your back is the most important part of your posture and it always remains straight.  Your arms should hang right from your shoulders.

Pivot

Alignment
